What is hope?

Hope is the decision to want something better than what current circumstances allow. The heart must allow the possibility of improvement before hope can be attained, therefor some ideas sometimes need to be removed. An example of a hope-defeating idea is that improvement is not possible, and the current circumstance is the only possible one.
For example, if someone did something wrong, say, steal a car, and did not believe that that action was wrong, there would be no hope for a life that does not consist of stealing cars - apart from something first changing the belief that stealing cars is not wrong. In that case, the something that changes the belief would be the person's hope, or source of hope.
The reaction to hope is generally a change of direction - or repentance.
